Battle of the Books

Maintained by Ms. Aletha Miller

Elementary Battle of the Books is a club for 4th and 5th graders who love to read.  Up to 12 students from the club will be selected to represent our school at the county-wide competition.  This competition consists of reading selected books.  Each child on the team will read for comprehension in order to be able to answer questions about the books.  This competition resembles a spelling bee in that the student is asked a question and then responds.  Students must fill out an application and take a title/author quiz to be accepted into the club.  Once in the club, students must read and complete assignments by due dates in order to remain in the club.  In January, the final team for to go on to the county competition is selected.

The Go Green Club of TCBES encourages both staff and students to conserve energy and recycle around campus. The school is committed to turning off lights, computers, and any electrical item when not in use. The teachers incorporate conservation and the importance of recycling into many of their classroom lessons. Students visit all classrooms and common areas weekly picking up school recycling bins and maintaining a clean environment. We have committed our environment to being well organized and environmentally friendly for our students and staff.

Safety Patrol is a club for 4th and 5th graders who want to ensure that our halls are safe during arrival and dismissal of school.  Students help to maintain order and keep younger students moving to class in the morning in a timely manner after they exit the cafeteria from breakfast. In the afternoon the Safety Patrol goes on duty to assist students in getting to their pick-up areas to depart school. Students wishing to be on safety patrol must set a high standard of discipline while in class and be at school on time every day. Students must also be friendly and outgoing and willing to help the younger students while on duty in the halls. A completed application and referrals from two staff members must be completed upon Mrs. Stewart’s request. Exceptional members will be considered for hall captain positions throughout the year.
